Consumers Energy offers scholarships for those pursuing postsecondary education!

Academic scholarships are offered to high school senior dependents of cooperative members.

Applications for this program are typically available from December through March.

 

Academic Scholarship

Consumers Energy annually awards academic college scholarships to members' children. The selection is based on a combination of grades, work experience, participation in school and community activities, and a recommendation from a third party. Complete and submit the application below.

2025 Academic Scholarship Program Application

Applications, essays, and supporting documentation are due by March 14, 2025.

I certify that all information contained on my application and other required materials is complete and accurate to the best of my knowledge. If I am a recipient of this scholarship, I hereby authorize Consumers Energy to utilize information about and from my scholarship application, any presentations or projects, and my likeness for public relations purposes and publicity.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

SCHOLARSHIP:

  • Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to applicants pursuing a post-secondary education in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must currently be a senior in high school.
  • Must be a dependent of a Consumers Energy member.

SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete the application form by typing or printing. Attach additional sheets if necessary.
  • Enclose your most recent academic transcript from your high school.
  • Enclose one letter of reference from a teacher, counselor, or employer.
  • Answer the following questions. The essay should be no less than 300 words.
    • How does energy efficiency affect you, your family, and the cooperative as a whole?
    • How do you think this scholarship will help you accomplish your education and career goals?
  • Return your completed application and supporting documentation to Consumers Energy by March 14, 2025.
  • Applications received after this date will not be considered.

SELECTION:

  • Selection criteria will be based on scholastic achievement, school and community involvement, work history, essay submission, and a written recommendation by a third party.

NOTIFICATION:

  • Scholarship recipients will receive notification from Consumers Energy. Due to the volume of applications expected, only students awarded a scholarship will be notified no later than April 14, 2025.

DISBURSEMENT:

  • Scholarships awarded shall be for $1,000 payable to the student and the educational institution the student will attend.

 

ONLY CONSUMERS ENERGY COOPERATIVE MEMBERS IN THE STATE OF IOWA ARE ELIGIBLE.
