WHY ENERGY EFFICIENCY IS SO IMPORTANT

At the moment, consumers are able to power their homes and businesses with the mere flip of a switch, as safe, reliable, and affordable electricity remains readily available. Experts predict that the need for electricity will climb another 30% by  2030. Unfortunately, the power available may not be able to keep up with this growth. In the meantime, Energy Efficiency is a powerful resource to tap into. Saving electricity now will reduce current utility bills and soften the blow against future power supply shortcomings.

Resources for making energy efficiency decisions:

Look for the ENERGY STAR® label that signals energy-efficient appliances that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features, and comfort. ENERGY STAR-qualified products exceed the federal minimum standards for efficiency and quality—sometimes significantly. For more information, visit www.energystar.gov.

The KILL A WATT™ unit assesses the efficiency of appliances when plugged into an appliance. A large LED display will count consumption by the kilowatt-hour to help estimate the cost for powering the unit.

The KILL A WATT calculates cumulative electrical expenses and forecasts by the day, week, month, and entire year.  The quality of power can also be checked by monitoring voltage, line frequency, and power factor.  Upon request, these units can be loaned to cooperative members for a period of 30 days.
