READING YOUR BILL

Below are images of front and back of a monthly bill for a consumer member of Consumers Energy. The image can be selected to see a larger image and the numbered list to the right of the image identifies detailed areas of a typical monthly bill. 

 

Side 1 of bill:

Payment drop off locations.

2.

Website information. Members can make payments and see account information via SmartHub.

3.

Message center displays any relevant co-op or account information.

4.

Account number.

5.

Average temperatures for current billing cycle.

6.

Account summary shows charges and payments for current billing cycle.

7.

Total current electric charges.

8.

Electric use and additional cooperative purchases can be found on the back side of the bill. The remittance stub portion should be mailed with payment with no staples or tape.

Account number and amount due by the 3rd of each month.

Enter Payment Amount line will either be blank to indicate payment amount or have a statement included for members who have accounts set up on automatic payments. 

Side 2 of bill:

Usage for current billing cycle and the same month in year prior for comparison.

12.

Dates / number of days in billing cycle. Note: Consumers Energy calculates billing statements a month in arrears in order to bill for actual usage.

13.

Current electric usage and charges.

14.

Meter number and previous and current meter readings.

15.

Second meter information if applicable. An additional meter is typically a heat meter used only for heating and cooling electric use.

16.

Total current electric charges by specified meter.

17.

Make a one-time payment by credit card or ECheck by filling out the appropriate section and mailing to the cooperative.
